The Podcast
Most of them go untold.
On This Road is a podcast about the places you pass through — the small towns, the stretches of highway, the bends in rivers with names nobody remembers. Each episode takes one place and finds the story that lives there. Sometimes it's a person. Sometimes a moment in history. Sometimes it's simply what it feels like to be in that particular stretch of country, at that particular hour of the day.
The episodes are short and designed to be listened to on the move — in the car heading somewhere, on a walk, or standing in the place itself. Narrated by Anthony and Airlie Byrnes, gathered while travelling across the country.
Every episode is pinned on the map above. Tap a pin. Hear the story that lives there.
Each story follows a simple structure: Region — Place — Story.
Ramsar Wetlands
In 1971, delegates from eighteen countries gathered in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. What they agreed that day became the world's first modern environmental treaty — the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.
Australia became a signatory in 1975. Today we have 66 designated Ramsar wetlands.
